The fish feed barge and the service vessel are built by Vard Aukra in Norway, and have since delivery in April 2017 been in full operation at site.

The VARD 8 52 is an innovative and modern fish feed barge. It is delivered with VARD’s newly developed Fish Feed system “FishSense”, including real time fish feed silo monitoring, and VARD’s SeaQ Bridge Control and Monitoring system. The barge has a capacity of 400 ton fish feed and a total of 150 m3 ensilage capacity.
The barge is designed in close cooperation with Laxar for an efficient, safe and sustainable fish farming, and Head of Operations in Laxar, Gunnar Steinn Gunnarsson, is pleased to witness how the crew easily has adapted to the newly developed systems onboard the barge; “I am pleased to see that the cooperation with VARD throughout the design phase has resulted in promising concepts. The barge itself provides an excellent work environment for my crew on board on a day-to day basis, including a fish feed system which is precise and easy to use.”

The service vessel, of 10 m length, is designed to support the Fish Farm installation in daily work and maintenance. Equipped with capstans, a 6,5 tonn/m crane, and two thrusters, the monohull vessel is a flexible design for versatile operations with excellent maneuverability.

VARD 8-SERIES includes a variety of vessels, platforms and barges for fisheries and aquaculture, able to perform functions such as live fish transportation and treatment, and fish farm operations and maintenance. Laxar Fiskeldi plans to develop a dynamic salmon farming activity in sea cages in the East Fjords of Iceland. The company’s plan is to build up production facilities of at least 25,000 tons. Increased stock volume leads to enhanced efficiency, and a more solid operational basis.
The first phase consists of establishing a fish farm facility with a production capacity of 6,000 tons in the fjord Reydarfjördur.
